Always the Quiet Ones
By Cassandra Carr

Blurb ~
King of the geeks Marty Johnston has a serious crush on his co-worker Elizabeth. The principal IT consultant wants more than just a flirtation, but guilt over a one-night-stand-but-maybe-more Marty had on his last business trip before meeting Elizabeth could cost him his big chance with the girl of his dreams. He’s comfortable dealing with computers, not people. Can he step way outside his comfort zone to sort things out, or will he lose the one he’s falling for?

Excerpt:
After paying the bill over Elizabeth’s objections, they walked back to her car. Marty smiled again, wondering what kind of luck rained down on him that she’d parked a good block and a half from the happy hour bar, so they were unlikely to encounter coworkers. She hit the remote and the car beeped, but she didn’t get in immediately, instead turning and leaning on the door.

“I had a great time.”

Marty’s grin got even wider. He’d break his face at this rate. “Me too. Thanks for asking me to dinner.”

“Thanks for paying, even though you really didn’t have to do that.”

“I wanted to.” And he’d do it again and again for the chance to know her better.

She looked up at him from underneath her lashes and he remembered reading in a Maxim magazine on the plane a few months ago that when a girl did that she wanted him to kiss her. Did she want him to kiss her? Did he want to kiss her? Hell yeah, he did.

He bent his head very slowly and gauged her reaction. She didn’t cover her mouth or knee him in the gonads, which he took for a good sign. By the time he brushed his lips over hers his pulse pounded and he hoped his eagerness didn’t, um, display itself too much. She leaned into the kiss and he took it deeper, licking over the seam of her lips and pulling her into him by her hips. Elizabeth’s arms crept around his neck and he felt her go up on tiptoe as her mouth opened for him. A little moan escaped her and he wanted so badly to push her against the car and have his way with her, but didn’t want to scare her either. With reluctance he backed away.

Elizabeth’s lips were swollen from his kisses and her round, firm tits heaved. He needed to get the hell out of there before he took things faster than he’d intended.

Guest Post & Giveaway ~*~ A Cowboy’s Christmas Promise by Maggie McGinnis

A Cowboy’s Christmas Promise
By: Maggie McGinnis
Releasing November 18th, 2014
Loveswept

Faking It (in the Kitchen)

Thanks so much for hosting me today! I’m so excited to celebrate the release of A Cowboy’s Christmas Promise with you!

My mother is a fabulous cook. My father is quite skilled. My husband can whip up a four-course meal in an hour’s time. My daughter can bake cupcakes that have the neighborhood drooling.

I can’t cook. At all.

It’s not for lack of trying. My local fire department can attest to at least two attempts. And it’s not that I lack, you know, a kitchen. I have a very nice one, with working appliances and everything. I even (mostly) know how to use most of the stuff IN my kitchen, though my mother periodically taunts me by putting mystery-gadgets in my stocking.

Knowing these things, it strikes me as more than a little odd that I volunteered to host Thanksgiving at my house this year. I’m expecting 25 people, and they’re expecting food. So what’s a girl to do? Fake it. Here are my top five tips for making it through this holiday as a non-cook:

Tip #1: Wine. Lots and lots of wine. Some might end up in the food, but if I pour enough of it for my guests, maybe they won’t notice my dismal cooking skills.

Tip #2: A dummy-proof cookbook that tells me exactly when to do what. My favorite one starts with when to take the turkey out of the freezer. You cooks might laugh, because you KNOW when to thaw the bleeping bird. But ask a girl who once spent 12 hours spraying cold water over a solid ice turkey whether that’s actually a page that should come in EVERY cookbook. It should.

Tip #3: Candles. I figure I can mimic apple pie, cranberry sauce, and pumpkin torte with strategically-placed candles. Then I’ll hide the bakery boxes, spray the whipped cream into a bowl so it looks like I whipped it myself, and voila! Dessert!

Tip #4: Fire. If the previous ideas fail, I’m thinking I can arrange for my local fire guys to show up with a well-timed mysterious evacuation order, and then we’ll have to head to a nice restaurant for dinner instead. Not my fault, right? And it’s not like anyone will be surprised. After all, they haven’t been here before …

Tip #5: Just invite Mom. She’ll tell me what to do, praise me for the little things like remembering to turn on the oven (don’t ask—it totally happened once), and feel all maternal while she helps her daughter host a memorable holiday. Win-win, right?

Here’s hoping you have a fabulous holiday … and hoping someone else is doing the cooking. Unless you  like that sort of thing. In that case, can I come over? :-)

How about you? Are you hosting this year? Lucky enough to be the one doing the dishes instead of the cooking?

Then a vacation to the Whisper Creek dude ranch introduces her to Daniel McKee, a sexy single dad who runs the kind of veterinary practice she aspires to—and rattles her conviction to keep men at a distance.

Managing a thriving practice, coping with the loss of his wife, and fighting a custody battle with his in-laws over his twin daughters, Daniel couldn’t be more overwhelmed. Hayley is a godsend, accompanying him in the field and winning over his girls. It doesn’t take Daniel long to realize he’s falling for this woman, hard and fast. So before Hayley returns to Boston, he extracts a promise: that she will return to Whisper Creek for Christmas. It’s the perfect time and place to show Hayley that the promise of a beautiful life together is something she can believe in.

His mother waved her hand in the air in a dismissive gesture. “Oh stop being so difficult. Heather is a nice woman. She’s a McKinley, their youngest in fact. The others were already snapped up but she’s now ready for society and the pressures of being a society wife. She’s trained in her duties and will be fine with your wandering eye if that’s what it comes to. She’s not in it for love, but for your name. If you want to have a few daisies on the side, then keep it quiet. Your father always did. You’re not getting any younger and I need grandchildren.”

Morgan ground his teeth. There were so many things wrong with what his mother had just said, he didn’t know where to start. This wasn’t the first woman she’d paraded around him. No, Heather was the latest in an endless line of perfectly sculpted women with even more perfect backgrounds. He wanted no part of that life. His sisters lived it. His mother had. He would not hurt the woman he married. He wouldn’t be the man his father had been. While his mother never acted hurt over his father’s affairs, Morgan knew better.

“You have grandchildren, Mother.” There. He’d start with the easiest part.

“Your sisters have children and I play the doting grandmother.”

Playing a doting grandmother? Yes, and she deserved an Oscar for her performance.

“You need an heir, Morgan. Our family legacy cannot and will not end with you.”

They’d had this argument countless times before. “My sisters’ children will be well provided for no matter what children I bring into the world. We aren’t in the ducal system in England. Stop trying to put your pressures on me.”

His mother scowled. “You’ll never amount to what he wanted for you.”

He nodded. “True, because I never wanted to.”

New York Times and USA Today Bestselling Author Carrie Ann Ryan never thought she’d be a writer. Not really. No, she loved math and science and even went on to graduate school in chemistry. Yes, she read as a kid and devoured teen fiction and Harry Potter, but it wasn’t until someone handed her a romance book in her late teens that she realized that there was something out there just for her. When another author suggested she use the voices in her head for good and not evil, The Redwood Pack and all her other stories were born.

Carrie Ann is a bestselling author of over twenty novels and novellas and has so much more on her mind (and on her spreadsheets *grins*) that she isn’t planning on giving up her dream anytime soon.
