 Review ~
The Erotic Escapades of a Married Couple . . . intriguing title as sometimes life gets a little dull.  Well Griffin and Deana are about to spice things up.  This is a novella that is sizzling hot.  While I wished for mored depth, there was enough in the story to make me invested in the characters - so I will say it is the sign of a good story to leave the reader not wanting to let the characters go.

Deana and Griffin have had a successful marriage for years, but they both know something is missing, and that something is someone, namely Vance. As they Deana and Grif start to communicate more and realize they both need and want Vance, they need to convince Vance of the same thing.  Not as easy as it might seem.

I really did enjoy this short story, and I don't usually go for novellas because I find most lacking the depth I love.  But, Lynda Bailey did a great job of giving us three characters that are realistic and likable.  The story gives a nice glimpse into a marriage where both parties have communication and recognize that it's time to add another dimension to their lives.  A must read if you are looking for hot, hot, hot in a compact package that will leave you wondering what you would do ;)

I’ve always loved stories.  Especially love stories.  Growing up in the Midwest, I’d make up stories to my favorite TV shows – usually westerns.

As I got older, the stories didn’t relent.  In fact, they only got stronger, the characters more insistent, until I had no choice but to put it all on paper.  It’s become an obsession for me.  One that I love.

When not sitting at my computer, I spend my time working as a substitute teacher and fitness instructor.  Guess you could say I’m an equal opportunity “persuader” of the young and, ahem, not so young.

Jacqs is a twenty-eight year old woman caught up in an on again, off again relationship with Bond, who is her best friend and the one who causes her the most heartache. She succumbs, yet again, to his powerful charisma, but vows not make it into more than it is, a great night of sex.

Bond, too sexy for his own good, wants Jacqs for himself as he “dates” his way through the female population of South Florida. He selfishly doesn’t see the conflict of interest.

Red, Bond’s best friend, has watched Bond take Jacqs for granted for way too long and soon stakes his own claim on her.

Will Red and Jacqs budding relationship pull apart their tight-knit group of friends and will Jacqs survive being Stuck in Between.

Review ~
Blakely Bennett is another new to me author that I'm glad I found.  While Stuck in Between sounds like it might be a tough read, it was an absolutely amazing story of love.

Jacqs, Red and Bond are intriguing characters that will each tug at your heart strings as well as make  you want to through your reading device across the room.  They really took me on a roller coaster ride as they each struggled with new and old feelings of desire and love as well as past hurts that made them who they are.

I know some of you don't like stories with cheating in them.  And this one might be touchy.  I don't consider there to be cheating in this one as everything is up front for the characters. While they may get emotional over the issues, it's not a hidden secret.

I did really enjoy how Blakely Bennett was able to give us a possible menage relationship with three characters who hadn't really considered it before.  These characters have a lot to deal with and they may end up hurting each other more than helping, but they are willing to give it a try.  I loved the common sense approach to this new relationship and really hope to read more about Jacqs, Red & Bond in the near future.

Excerpt
“It’s not that I was trying to hide it from you. I just… it’s a part of me that I’ve worked hard to bury for a long time.” Right about now, I’m really wishing I had listened to Dylan and pulled down the Johnnie Walker. I’m irritated that I’ve driven this wedge between us. Dylan has been there for me since college. He pushed aside his aspirations to help me start the promotions company when he could have easily been hired on with any fancy corporation and raced his way up the ladder.

Dylan’s feet drop to the floor as he leans over the desk. “But why? If you’ve been burying it, that means this wasn’t a surprise to you. Why wouldn’t you tell me what was going on in that thick skull of yours? Some of the shit we’ve been through together, I can’t think of a single fucking thing I would keep a secret from you.”

“It’s not that I don’t trust you, D,” I groan, tilting my head back against my chair.  “I just… if I told you, I’d have to tell Tommy. And if he knew, everyone would know and I’m not ready for that. Maybe someday I’ll have someone in my life and I’ll have to tell them, but until then, I don’t see a reason for my family to know.”

“Seriously? Do you really think Tommy would run to your mom? And even if he did, I think you’re imagining a worse reaction than they’ll have. You have the type of family most people would kill to have.” He reaches across the desk, slapping me across the back of my head. The cockeyed grin on his face lets me know that while he might be upset with me for keeping this secret, he’s not angry and this won’t be the death of our friendship.

“You’ve met my family. What do you think they’re going to say when they learn that I like dick?” For as accepting as the Reed family can be about a lot of things, that acceptance doesn’t extend to one of their own having bisexual tendencies. They’d run with the fact that I am attracted to women and ask why I can’t be happy finding a good woman to settle down with. Until Mary, there wasn’t a woman I would have considered such a move for. With Mary, I feel as if we’d be incomplete without Jeff.

“Fair enough. But I’m not them and I highly doubt Tommy would say anything. After all, he knows them just as well as you do and I don’t see him throwing you under a bus.” I get what he’s saying, but it’s too late to change it.

“You could have told me.” If I’m not mistaken, Dylan sounds more hurt than angry. That shouldn’t surprise me, but it does. It wasn’t until recently that the man showed any sort of emotion. “You should have told me, man. You and me, we’re closer than I am with my own brother. I just…”

Review ~
This is my first book by Sloan Johnson, but I don't expect it to be my last.  While it is part of the Isthmus Alliance series, it can be read and enjoyed without reading the others.  But I have a feeling you might be like me and ready to head out and get the others after finishing Unexpected Consequences.

Sloan Johnson creates a world and characters that readers can connect to.  They face struggles and issues that some of us might face at some point in our life.  I really enjoyed the way she was able to suck me into her world and tug at my heart with each of her characters.  That is one of the true gifts of a good story for me.

The characters face some struggle. jealousy, and other issues as they struggle to figure out how to make a menage relationship work for them.  Sloan Johnson doesn't just give us hot, steamy sexual encounters she gives us the gritty emotional side of trying to make a m/f/m relationship work.  Unexpected Consequences is one of my top reads of the year and one I would recommend.

Guest Post & Giveaway ~*~ The Stylist, His Dom, and Their Dancer by Michelle Graham

Getting Your Kink On

Some writers are able to easily write about a great many things they’ve never seen or experienced, but I’m not one of them. I’m most comfortable writing about things I’ve had some experience with, though I will push the envelope sometimes, and I can research as well as the next person. I love to read about things that are outside of my realm of experience though.

One of my favorite authors is Laurell K. Hamilton, and it was in her Anita Blake books that I found some things that I liked: explicit sex, BDSM, mĂ©nage. Until then, I’d never really read anything like them. From there, I moved on to 50 Shades. And again the focus was on explicit sex and BDSM. In search of more naughty books, I discovered Siren Publishing, and that’s when I first decided to make a serious attempt at writing, something which I’d only dabbled in before.

I stuck to what I knew, and my first book was a contemporary ménage with straight sex. But as I read more about BDSM, I thought I might like to try my hand at that too. I included a little in my second book, though I had no real world experience. It made me realize that I needed to do some more research, so I cautiously approached hubby and we started to experiment.

Best decision ever!

My own journey into this lifestyle is mirrored to some extent by my heroines. In books 2, 3, and 4 of the Hedon Falls series, they have no experience with BDSM, but find lovers who introduce them to the lifestyle. It’s not heavy, but it’s a start. Hubby and I are still exploring what works for us and what doesn’t. We could never do a 24/7 Dom/sub relationship, but for bedroom games it works nicely, and I think it’s helped my writing.

I think my biggest fear in exploring these darker fantasies was that I was somehow abnormal. Realizing that I’m not has made our sex lives much more interesting, and I only regret that it’s taken us so long to start exploring. Whether you’re into the kink or not, an open, honest relationship with your partner is essential for a satisfying sex life. And if you get a few ideas from books along the way, so much the better!

Have you ever read something in a book and decided to give it a try? Was it a rousing success or an epic fail? Leave me a comment and you’ll be entered to win a delightful swag bag (US and Canada) or an ebook and $10 Strandbucks (International). Email address must be included so that the winner can be notified. Contest ends at midnight EST on 2/22.

The Stylist, His Dom, and Their Dancer
(Hedon Falls 4)
By Michelle Graham

Stylist and salon owner Remy Alexander got a second chance at love when he found Seamus O’Connell, but the more time he spends with his daughter’s dance teacher, the more he wonders if there is room for another in his marriage.

As a result of a troubled past, Shay needs order and control in everything, from his work as a chef, to the bedroom he shares with his submissive husband. Remy’s idea to have a mĂ©nage relationship upsets the delicate balance Shay has created for himself, but he can’t deny his desire for the sexy dance instructor.

Nicole Collins is a good Catholic girl who pours all her energy into her work as a dance teacher. When she falls for Remy and Shay, they teach her about passion, submission, and love, but incur the wrath of her own father. Can Nicole find a way to hang on to everyone she loves, or will one relationship cost her the other?

Story Excerpt
The knife tapped against the cutting board as Shay mutilated the celery. When that was done, he turned to the peppers, reducing them to tiny bits in a matter of minutes. As he continued his preparations, he tried not to think about the dance teacher. Tried not to think about the supple strength of her legs as she moved. Tried not to think about the way her sports bra had clung to her breasts. Tried not to think about how hard he got watching her.

With a groan, Shay continued to take his anger out on the helpless produce. He couldn’t stop thinking about her and it scared him. He was a married man, but his husband seemed to share his attraction to the woman. He didn’t know what to do, and the uncertainty scared him. Everything in his life was in perfect order, from his kitchen, to his bedroom, to his goddamn tie collection. Where did Nicole fit in?

A movement on the other side of the island caught his attention and he looked up to see Remy sitting on one of the bar stools watching him.

“We need to talk,” Remy said.

“I don’t want to talk.” Shay scraped the chopped veggies into the pan on the stove, poured some wine over them, and then took a long swig from the bottle.

“Shay, I know you’re attracted to her. And I think she’s attracted to us too. Maybe we can invite her to join us.”

Shay choked on the wine. “What do you mean? A threesome?”

The sexy smile on Remy’s face said it all. Rage flared in Shay’s head. “How can you possibly suggest that?” His voice boomed through the kitchen and Remy blanched. “After what they—You know that there’s no way I could do it!”

Fear sliced through the rage, gripping Shay’s heart and squeezing as a memory flashed through his head. Pushing it back, Shay grabbed another pepper and started to chop it. He ignored Remy’s attempts to talk to him. Remy knew his history. He knew why a threesome would never work, but he had the nerve to suggest it anyway. He got some satisfaction picturing how red he planned to make Remy’s ass later.

“Fuck!” Shay cried as a burning pain lanced his fingertip and looking down, he saw he’d cut himself with the knife. “Goddamn it!” He thrust his hand under the tap and turned on the water. Fiery needles jabbed through the finger and up into his arm and he swore again, unable to keep back the tears now.

Remy appeared at his side with a towel and wrapped it around Shay’s finger before leading him to a stool. Unable to control his sobs, Shay buried his head against Remy’s shoulder and let the pain pour out. Remy stood silent until Shay was able to get himself under control. Remy’s ability to give Shay exactly what he needed made him the ideal mate, and that’s why the suggestion of a threesome took Shay by surprise. Shay lifted his head from Remy’s shoulder and wiped the last of the tears from his face.

“I’m good,” he said at last. “Sorry about that.” Shay glanced down at the towel to see it soaked with blood. “Shit. The bleeding isn’t stopping.”

“Okay, let’s get to the hospital, then,” Remy said. “I’ll get someone to watch Ainsley.”

Shay went to turn off the stove and grab another towel. In the background he heard Remy on the phone, and then he yelled for Ainsley to come downstairs. Remy explained what had happened and Ainsley ran over to hug Shay.

“Papa, are you going to be okay?”
His heart melted a little and he kissed her forehead. “I’ll be fine sweetie. But I can’t finish supper, so do you want to order a pizza?”

“Yeah!” she cried. “Can I call?”

“Sure.”

She skipped off to the drawer where they kept the take-out menus and began flipping through them. The front bell rang and Remy took off to the door. Checking for his wallet, Shay headed to the door, but stopped short when he saw Nicole standing there. He glared at Remy.

“Shay, are you all right?” she asked coming over to him. She looked down at the bloody towel and gasped. “Oh my God!” Her hand brushed his arm and an electric jolt raced through him, causing his cock to harden. Damn, Remy!

Remy avoided making eye contact with Shay as he escorted Nicole into the kitchen where Ainsley shrieked with delight. When Remy returned, he held the door for Shay and helped him into the car, even doing up his seatbelt. After sliding into the driver’s seat, he started the vehicle and pulled out into the street.

“That was sneaky,” Shay said finally.

Remy had the decency to look guilty. “I’m sorry. I just thought that if you got used to her being around, you might realize that she’s not like—”

“If you know what’s good for you, you won’t finish that sentence.”

Remy stayed silent the rest of the ride, while Shay thought about Nicole. There was no denying her beauty. Or his reaction to it. It had been years since he’d been with a woman. He missed the soft curves, the feel of breasts, the slick wetness of a pussy. Shit, now I’m hard again. In truth, the more he thought about Remy’s suggestion, the more he liked it, and it scared the crap out of him. He couldn’t imagine finding a sweeter woman, but he knew only too well that people could change when they got into the bedroom. And if she were going to be with them, she’d have to be submissive. He couldn’t be intimate with someone who wouldn’t follow his directions exactly.

When they reached the hospital, Shay still hadn’t figured anything out. He and Remy walked into the Emergency Department and quickly went through triage before being asked to sit in the waiting room. The silence stretched out uncomfortably, until Shay couldn’t stand it anymore.

“I’m sorry for freaking out.”

With a gentle smile, Remy took his good hand. “I only brought it up because I saw how turned on you were from watching her. I thought…”

“She turns me on and I won’t pretend she doesn’t,” Shay said. “But asking her into our bed is a huge step, for all of us, and I don’t think I’m ready for it.”

Giving his hand a squeeze, Remy leaned over and kissed his cheek. “I didn’t say it had to be right away. Let’s spend some time getting to know her, letting her get to know us.”

Shay leaned his head against Remy’s. “You’re not just talking about a physical relationship here, are you?” Remy shook his head. “I’m not going to make any promises, but I’m willing to think about it and see where this goes.”

Shay’s heart fluttered when Remy’s lips brushed his, knowing that ultimately, he wouldn’t be able to resist his husband, or the gorgeous dancer.
