New Release ~*~ No Perfect Princess by Angel Payne & Victoria Blue

What came first? The princess or the shoes? And does it really matter?

My name is Margaux Asher. Don’t be afraid to ask how it’s spelled though I may enlighten you, anyway. Yes, I’m that Margaux Asher. The attitude icon. The bitch in the latest heels. The princess of the PR game.

Just don’t bring up the queen.

Mommie and I aren’t on comfortable terms. Last winter, I learned a secret that Andrea Asher has hidden from me since my birth—by another woman. And my real father? Josiah Stone, one of the world’s richest men. Dream come true, right?

There’s a lot of baggage attached to that answer. And now, Michael Pearson wants to help me open it.

Michael. My six-foot-three, golden god of a dilemma. He’s patient, indulgent—and don’t get me started on his passion—but he wants too much. He wants all the secrets. What would he say if he knew my birthright was only the start of my life’s mess? What would he do if he learns…I’m no perfect princess?

Someday, my princess will come…

The apple never falls far from the tree? Depends on who you ask.

I’m Michael Pearson. Son of an apple farmer. First family member to graduate college, move to the big city, and work for one of the most prestigious PR firms in the country. I’m the success, the star—

And the sap who’s fallen for the boss’s daughter.

So technically, Margaux isn’t Andrea’s daughter anymore. Doesn’t matter to the rest of the company—and the world—who vilify her as they always have. But where they see a she-snake, I see a terrified girl in the woods, yearning for a place where she’s accepted, loved. Every time I volunteer my arms to be that place, she ducks deeper into her shell, pushing me away with more fear and anger. Her facade thickens every day, making me more determined to learn what magic kiss will set her free, so she can finally see the truth…

I don’t want her to be perfect. I just want her to be mine.

Hi there. I'm Angel: book lover, writing addict, hopeless romantic, pop culture geek and avid shoe lover.

A bit about me...

I've been hooked on books since I was a kid but it got worse in my twenties, when I discovered romances--the hotter, the better. Growing up in Southern California, with lots of surfer manliness surrounded me, was certainly a good boost for reading about delicious alpha guys and the women who adore them. When I learned I had a knack for telling these stories too, I guess you could say I was doomed--though my path toward romance novelist took a few detours via a concert-reviewing gig for my college newspaper (free show tickets...backstage passes...that was a no-brainer), artist interviews for a Beverly Hills dance music mag, personal assistant work for a record producer, dance club disc jockey, and a lot of fun in the hospitality industry.

These days, I still live in California, and have found an amazing alpha guy of my own who was brave enough to marry me. We live on a street that looks like Brigadoon, with our beautiful daughter. I have the best life ever, and never forget to thank the Big Guy Upstairs for it, either.

There was a couple of inches of snow drift across the front lawn, but when she turned the corner and faced west, brown grass poked through just a dusting of snow, and the wind stole her breath from her lungs. Grey clouds filled the sky and the scent of snow was on the air. Tipping her head down, she hurried across the yard to the massive barn doors, pausing only long enough to tug one open and squeeze through it.

Compared to the cold outside, the warmth of the barn was intoxicating. The smell of animals and hay filled her nose and she sneezed loudly.

“Bless you.”

The deep voice was followed by a masculine chuckle, and she jerked in surprise looking for its owner. When she didn’t immediately spot anyone she frowned.

“Thank you, um, whoever you are?”

A black cowboy hat appeared over the top of a stall next to a brown horses head. Under the hat was a strong face, with a sharp jaw and a meticulously trimmed goatee and mustache. His nose was a little large, and as she stepped closer she could see that it was also slightly crooked with a telling bump in the middle. The smile on his face was amused as he allowed her to look her fill. But his dark black eyebrow rose when she remained quietly standing several feet away from him.

Concern filled his brown eyes and he reached one long arm over the stall door opening the latch. Her vision suddenly filled with the huge sexy body of a real life cowboy and she felt her chest tighten. He was beautiful. Black curly hair peeked out from under the brim of his hat, barely curling over his ears and the collar of his heavy brown coat. His wide shoulders filled out every spare millimeter of the material, and a powerfully built chest drew her gaze further down until her eyes struck gold. Framed by perfectly cut chaps was a thick looking bulge of blue denim and zipper, and Lacy nearly groaned out loud at the many wicked images running through her brain.

“Are you all right?”

She jumped in surprise at his question and felt a hot blush creep up her cheeks. “Yes, I’m sorry. That was ridiculously rude, please excuse me.” She stepped forward with her hand out, “I’m Lacy Denvers.”

“Ah, Denvers, yes Marilyn said we were going to have a guest for a couple of weeks.” The hand that took hers was enormous, and it engulfed her grip until she could barely see her own skin. She could feel calluses on his palm and a shiver went up her spine at the touch. What would that feel like on other more sensitive parts of her body? “Pretty unusual for someone to book a vacation in North Dakota in the winter.”

She was taken aback by the comment, and frowned up at him. At five foot eight, Lacy wasn’t a short girl, but the cowboy was at least eight or nine inches taller than she was, so her head had to tip back to see his eyes. “I booked the trip last summer. I wanted to get away from the city and I wanted to learn how to ride. Is that a problem?”

“Want to learn how to ride, huh?” The teasing flirtation in his voice made her pussy clench and her breasts swell. This time it was his eyes that slowly wandered down her body taking in every bit of her before coming back up to meet her pointed gaze. “I have no doubt that you can learn how to ride like a pro here at Crawley Creek.”

She nodded sharply refusing to acknowledge the innuendo. His eyes had turned a darker color, and his pupils had grown along with the bulge behind his zipper. The attraction was clearly mutual. Her heart was racing in her chest, and she turned back to the horse he had been working with in order to give herself some breathing room.

“She’s pretty, does she have a name?”

The cowboy stepped closer to the stall. Suddenly her palms were sweating too, and she was glad she had on so many layers so that he wouldn’t be able to see the hard nubs of her nipples poking through her shirt.

“She is a he, and his name is Toto.”

Lacy snorted and then covered her mouth in embarrassment. “Sorry, you don’t mean, Toto like the dog in Oz do you?”

“Is there another Toto?”

A giggle slipped out, and then turned into a full on loud laugh. Toto snuffed in his stall and looked at her with large brown eyes. The cowboy seemed amused at her enjoyment. He stepped closer and reached his hand up to run it over Toto’s forehead. The horse nuzzled him, and bobbed its head asking for more affection.

“Here, reach up and touch him. He’s like any other male, if you stroke him right he’ll be yours.” His voice was low and deep, and his eyes were locked on Lacy while she reached up to run her hand over the soft white spot on Toto’s forehead. Toto truly did seem to appreciate the gesture, and he tipped his nose to sniff at her arm.

“He’s beautiful. This is the closest I’ve ever been to a real horse.”

“Toto is honored to be your first.”

Lacy’s eyes darted over to look at the cowboy. His flirtations weren’t subtle, and his eyes blatantly said that he would be up for a hot sweaty fling. She pondered for less than a breath before she turned to face him.

“Are all cowboys this forward?” She cocked her head to one side watching him. His eyes shuttered and the heat seemed to seep out of them instantly.

“I apologize. It’s not often a beautiful woman appears in the barn out of nowhere. I have some more work to do, but you’re welcome to look around, just make sure to stay out of the stalls without someone with you. All of the horses are gentle most of the time, but accidents happen. You’re such a wisp, one kick and you’d be done for.” While he spoke, he reached back over the wall of the stall and pulled up a bucket that must have been on a hook inside. There was a collection of unusual tools inside the bucket, but she didn’t have a chance to ask him what they were before he was headed down the walkway and out the doors.

Review ~

You know, I haven't read many books by Katy Evans, not for lack of desire, just lack of time.  When I got the chance to read an ARC of Manwhore, I jumped on it and decided to delve right in and all I can say is WOW.  It blew me away.  This is one of my first 5 star reads of 2015 and I must admit I feel the need to put everything else aside and catch up on Katy Evans books if this is an example of her writing style.

Rachel took a little while to really like, but she has a job and she was determined to do whatever it took to get her interview and the scoop on Malcolm.  Only Malcolm seems to now have an interest in Rachel and things are about to get complicated.

Manwhore is gritty, emotional, hot and sexy, as well as just plain gripping.  It is one of the few books I couldn't walk away from this year.  I had to know what happened next.  Until the end. Then, I wanted to throw my iPad across the room and yell and scream and . . . yeah you all know the feeling.

Be forewarned, HUGE Cliffhanger and, well, July can't come soon enough to pick up Manwhore +1 and see what happens next.  but let me tell you, I would sin for and with this Saint any time.

A highly recommended read to steam up your days and nights!

Review ~
Rules. . . we all have them and we all break some if not all of them. That is one of the reason that Rule Breaker is a story that is relevant and easy for the reader to connect with.

Lauren has broken her rules, and gone back to them time and again only she never finds what she's looking for. When she meets Jackson, she once again decides rules are made to be broken and she's going to have one last fling not following any of the rules.

Jackson and Lauren have a strong chemistry, but can they get past Lauren's rules and what her parents have ingrained in her is the type of man she should marry?  There is a lot of baggage to overcome, but Jackson just might be the man to show Lauren that broken rules do not mean a disaster of a relationship.

This was a fun story that made me laugh, contemplate my own rules, and was very sexy.  A very enjoyable read and I'm looking forward to more from Harper Kincaid.

“She sure is hitting that bag hard.” Ashland Wilder glanced over at River with a questioning look on her face. They sat in one of the workout rooms at the lodge, watching as Star worked out her frustrations on the bag. “She looks mad.”

“Yep,” River agreed with her best friend. “I wish Star would just have sex with Banks and Jansen; maybe that would help her with the anger she’s built up. It sure helps me when I need to release some stress.” She snickered, then looked back at her sister pounding the bag. She was proud of Star. Her sister had come a long way since the day they met. She worked out all the time, and she’d started putting on some muscle. It wasn’t enough to make you stop and stare, unless you were a man. Her curves were curvier, and her attitude had changed as well. She liked the way she looked and it showed with her work-out clothes. When she first met her sister, she wouldn’t have dared to wear skimpy shorts and sports bras, but she did now and she looked great in them.

“For some reason that just makes me laugh. It’s true, but it’s funny,” Ash giggled.

“Hey, what are you two laughing at?” Star Johnson stopped punching the bag and looked over at her sister and their friend.

River just waved her sister’s question away and pushed Ash over until they both lay on the floor, laughing until they cried. Once they started laughing they just couldn’t seem to stop, and the more Star pounded on that bag the louder they got.

Star walked over and just stared at the women. “What’s so damn funny?”

“Nothing.” River tried getting up, but fell back down on the floor, still giggling.

Star shook her head, walked back over to the bag and started punching it harder.

“Okay, okay. Please stop.” Ash took a deep breath and lay flat on her back, trying to calm down.

“Uh Oh.” Ash snorted. Both the girls rose up quickly when they heard Banks walk in the room and head straight for Star. “You need to look at what you’re hitting or you’re going to hurt your hand.”

They both watched as Star stopped hitting the bag and tilted her head sideways at him. “What did you just say?”

River watched as Star’s voice became very calm, which should have scared Banks, but he just continued to stare at her. Then he really messed up and moved in closer, invading Star’s space. Banks Cohen was really a good man, but he was like most Alpha males, very bossy. When the call went out to all paranormal groups asking for their best to join a specialized unit, Banks was chosen and sent to Freedom, Colorado to be part of it. He was a six feet, seven inches tall and built like a mountain. It was like watching a movie play out, where the much smaller female decided to stand her ground and face off with the big bad grizzly bear like she wasn’t scared at all. Unfortunately, this movie was playing out right in front of them. To make matters worse, Banks repeated in a patronizing voice, “If you don’t look at what you’re hitting, you’re going to hurt your hand.”

River shook her head and started to get up to intervene. She cringed when Star narrowed her eyes at him, her fists balled up at her sides. Before River could warn him, her sister jumped up and punched Banks in the face. He fell backwards against the table, blood pouring from his nose. He shook his head in confusion.

“You mean like that?” Star bellowed, then quickly walked out of the room.

Ash and River jumped up and hurried over to Banks, who was cussing. He held his nose as the blood poured between his fingers, splattering over his nice blue shirt and the floor. River put her hand on his shoulder. “Are you okay?”

“What the hell is Star’s problem? I only told her she needed to look at what she was hitting or she’d hurt herself, and then she punched me in the damn nose.”

“Yeah, we saw that. I guess you could say she was looking at what she was hitting when her fist connected with your nose.” River nudged Ash, who snickered.

“Sorry, Banks,” River added, but she had to purse her lips so she didn’t smile, or she was going to laugh in his face. The bear shifter looked mad enough already.

When he looked at most people, his intense blue eyes sparkled. When he looked at Star, everyone could see the sparks that flared up between them. But Star fought Banks and Jansen at every opportunity.

Review ~
I got  hooked on Skye Warrens books several years ago and have never looked back.  Her books are gritty, entertaining, passionate and exactly what I'm sometimes looking for.

Love the Way You Lie didn't disappoint.  I put everything aside when I got my hands on my ARC and sat down to read.  Now even though my to-do list is miles and miles long, I couldn't stop! LOL She sucked me in again with characters that make choices maybe I wouldn't have made, but it's the only thing that they think is going to get them where they want to be.

This isn't your typical book about strippers.  Honor is not your "normal" stripper, nor is she a stripper for the usual reasons.  Kip may or may not really be a white knight, that's for you to decide.  This is gritty, action packed, emotional and at times rather dark.  But that's what I love about it!

Is the passion they share real, or is he using her to solidify his status at Club Sin? And yet, who else can she trust with the shattering secrets she holds within? As Porter expertly brings her to the point of no return, Kenzie surrenders her body—and, piece by piece, her heart.

Tamed is an erotic romance intended for mature audiences.

Tamed is the Fifth book in the Club Sin Series and a wonderful addition.  You don't have to read them in order, but I don't think you should miss any of the first four since they are all wonderful and help you get to know Kenzie building up to this story!

Kenzie has never been my favorite character in the series because I simply don't usually like bratty submissives and she has bratty down to a science. But over the course of the series and in this book, she has started to grow on me and I'm glad she got her own story. She grows and flourishes within the pages of Tamed and really is a beautiful person.

Porter is perfect for Kenzie with is ability to pus one direction one minute and through her off guard by pushing from another direction the next minute. He sees the underlying pain that lurks beneath Kenzie's tough exterior and wants to help her release it but she isn't an easy person to crack.

The struggles these two face don't take place just inside the club.  There is conflict and angst that must be dealt with outside the club as well.  Stacey kennedy does a fabulous job with giving us complex characters that have real-world issues that a reader can get involved in and relate to.  Tamed is a highly recommended read from me as is the entire series.

Waiting was pure torture, Lady Annys MacQueen decided. She looked down at the small shirt she was mending, sighed, and began to pull out the appallingly crooked stitching. It was hard to believe Sir Harcourt would ignore her cry for help yet it had been a very long ten days since she had sent him the message. Ten days and not even the young man she had sent out with the message had returned. Annys prayed she had not sent young Ian to his death. She doubted Sir Harcourt would hurt Ian but the journey itself would not have been without its dangers.

“M’lady, mayhaps ye should have a wee rest,” said Joan as she sat down beside Annys on the padded bench.

Smiling at her maid, Annys shook her head. “’Tis much too early, Joan. Everyone would wonder if I was ill and that would only add to the unease they all suffer from even now. I must try to be strong, and most certainly must at least always appear to be.”

Annys wondered why her words made Joan frown. The woman was only ten years older than her but often acted in a very motherly way. Round of body and face, Joan did not even look her age yet she could lecture one like a grandmother. That frown often warned of a lecture being carefully thought out. Annys was not in a humor to endure one but also knew she loved Joan too much to hurt the woman’s feelings by revealing that displeasure with some sharp words. They had been friends and companions, as well as lady and maid, since the day Annys had first come to Glencullaich to meet her betrothed.

“Ye are a lass,” Joan began.

“I have come to realize that. I was slow to see it, but the breasts refused to be ignored.” Annys was not surprised to receive a scowl from Joan that clearly said her maid was not amused.

“No one expects constant strength from a wee lass who has but recently buried her husband,” Joan continued. “Ye are wearing yourself to the bone trying to be the laird and the lady of this keep. Ye dinnae need to be both. All here willingly heed the lady, have always done so, so trying to don Sir David’s boots is unnecessary.”

“And if I dinnae do it, who will?”

Annys thought on that for a moment. The man had arrived almost five years ago. He had claimed that he had spent enough time selling his sword for a living and now wished to settle in one place. David had welcomed the man with open arms, readily training him to lead the other, less well-trained men at Glencullaich. Fortunately, no one had complained or taken offense at how the stranger had so quickly moved into place as David’s right-hand man. In truth, they had all welcomed his skills. She even had to admit that he had been immensely helpful since David’s death.

“Mayhaps he can,” she conceded. “He certainly has been most helpful thus far. Yet, I have always wondered why he ne’er just went home to Wales to settle.”

“A long journey for a mon who says there is no one left there for him.”

“True enough.” Annys shrugged and tossed the little shirt she had yet to finish back into her mending basket. “’Tis nay that I dinnae trust him, for I do. I but puzzle o’er it now and then. I will try to put more of the work into his hands, but nay so much that it hinders his ability to keep the men weel trained. Their training cannae be allowed to lag.”

“Nay, ye are right. It cannae.” Joan nodded. “It is badly needed, sad to say. E’en weel trained as they are now, ’tis a constant battle to keep that bastard from trying to destroy us. If he sniffed out a weakness he would be on us like carrion birds on a fishermon’s catch. Have ye heard anything from that Sir Murray yet?”

“Nay. I begin to fear that I have accomplished naught but to send poor young Ian to his death.”

“Och, nay, m’lady, dinnae allow that fear to prey on your mind. Ian kenned the risks and he is a clever lad, one who kens weel how to slip about quietly and hide weel when needed. There are many reasons one can see for why he hasnae returned yet. Many. And a sad fate is but one of them.”

And it was true, Annys thought. It was simply a truth she had a difficult time clinging to. Ian had come to the keep as a young boy, orphaned when the rest of his family had died in a fire, frightened, and painfully shy. It had taken a while, but by the time she had come to live permanently at Glencullaich as its lady, he had blossomed. Still sweet, still quick to blush, but settled and happy. He had fallen into the role of Glencullaich’s messenger as if born to it, but he had never been sent on such a long journey before.

Annys started as the shout from the door yanked her out of her thoughts and she stared at the tall, too-thin young man who had burst into the solar. “What is it, Gavin? Please dinnae tell me there is more trouble to deal with. It has been so blissfully quiet for days.”

“I dinnae think ’tis trouble, m’lady, for Nicolas isnae bothered.” Gavin scratched at his cheek and frowned. “But there are six big, armed men at the gate. Nicolas was going to open the gates for them and said I was to come and tell ye that.”

“I will be right out then. Thank ye, Gavin.” The moment Gavin left, she looked at Joan. “How are six big, armed men nay trouble?”

“If they come in answer to your message?” Joan hastily tidied Annys’s thick braid. “There, done. Now ye look presentable. Let us go out and greet our guests.”

“Guests dinnae come armed,” Annys said as she started out of the room, Joan right at her side.

“They do if they come in reply to a lady’s note saying ‘help me, help me’.”

“I didnae say ‘help me, help me’.”

“Near enough. No gain in talking on it until we actually see who is here.”

“Fine but I did nay say ‘help me, help me’.”

Annys ignored Joan’s soft grunt even though she knew it meant the woman was not going to change her mind. She stepped out through the heavy oak doors and started down the stone steps to the bailey only to stop short before she reached the bottom. The man dismounting from a huge black gelding was painfully familiar.

Tall, strong, and handsome with his thick long black hair and eyes like a wolf, he had been a hard man to forget. She had certainly done her utmost to cast him from her mind. Each time he had slipped into her thoughts she had slapped his memory away. Writing him that message had brought his memory rushing to the fore again, however. Seeing him in the flesh looking as handsome as he had five years ago told her that she had never succeeded in forgetting him. Annys began to regret asking for his aid no matter how badly they needed any help they could get at the moment.

She fought to remind herself of how he had ridden away from Glencullaich all those years ago without even a quick but private farewell to her. It had hurt. Despite knowing it had been wrong to want that private moment to say their good-byes, despite the guilt that wanting had stirred in her then, and now, she had been devastated by his cold leave-taking.

Then, abruptly, his gaze locked with hers and every memory she had fought to banish from her mind came rushing back so clearly and strongly that she had to fight to stand straight and steady. Annys cursed silently. It was still there. The fascination, the wanting, was all reborn beneath the steady look from those rich amber eyes. This could become the biggest mistake she had ever made in her life.
