“Where’s your roommate?” Rachel asked, her fingers working the buttons on Ben’s shirt before he had the door closed behind them. 

They’d gone out to one of the corner bars in her neighborhood, but he hadn’t really had the stomach or the patience for the beer he’d ordered. She’d barely made it through her own drink when she suggested they go somewhere else. 

“Gone ’til morning,” he answered, letting go of her long enough to shrug out of his shirt. He reached for the button on her jeans and popped it open while she pulled her top off over her head. “Gotta love the roommate being on night shift.” And then she was clinging to him again, her fingers dug into his hair, the silky skin of her curvy body against his. The taste of whiskey on her tongue and the heady smell of her was intoxicating. He got an arm under her bottom and lifted her off her feet. 

“Nice place you got here,” she said, biting gently on his earlobe and nearly making him lose his footing. 

He crushed her to the wall in the hallway. “You’re not even looking at my place.” 

She started to laugh and he took her mouth hard enough her head hit the wall with a light but solid thump. She dug her nails into his back. 

“Busted,” she panted when he grazed his teeth along her jaw.

4 Star Review ~*~
Falling for the Backup can be read even if you haven't read the first three books in the series. I was lucky enough to read books 2 and 3 prior to this novella (reviews coming soon), so I had some of the backstory, but this would be perfectly enjoyable without that.  Ok, now that we have that out of the way ;)

I really enjoyed the relationship between Aynslee and Jordan.  They both have some issue in their past and are doing the best they can to keep moving forward doing what they love to do.  But how can  they even attempt a relationship when neither of them puts themselves first in life.  There are so many factors against the two of them that he seems a fling is about all they can have.  

Toni Aleo does a marvelous job of giving us characters that we can both love and hate all at once.  As i grumbles at these two, as well as the supporting characters, I wanted to smack them upside the head at times and hug them close at others.  That makes them great in my opinion, that they can push my emotions all over the place keeps me reading for more.  

As a fellow hockey lover, I just have to say to Ms. Aleo wait til next season.  Nashville doesn't stand a chance with my Wings in the division now! LOL

Pat Amsden is a writer of romance and mystery who lives on the West Coast of Canada. She lives with her son in Victoria, BC and works at the local hospital. She is, once again, single. For as long as she can remember she has loved stories. First reading them and then making them up. Sometimes that got her into trouble when she was younger but that's another story! She studied journalism in college but got side-tracked raising a family and working a variety of other jobs to pay the bills. Writing fell by the way-side. The years went by and one day she decided to check out a local writer's group. There was a workshop with an exercise. Write something that had the hero and heroine meeting within the first page. Maybe there could even be a kiss! And don’t let the heroine get too comfortable. If she’s shy don’t have her go to the library and meet the librarian, get her out of her comfort zone. Maybe in a bar. She decided, why stop there, let’s put the heroine on top of the bar! Many revisions later, the result is Lost In Vegas! But none of this would have been possible without the support and encouragement of fellow writers. She benefited from workshops such as the Write On Vancouver workshop with Michael Hauge and another with Jane Porter. Shirley Jump’s workshop was so good she immediately took another with her. Then she got the Deep Editing lectures from Margie Lawson’s School of Writing and Lisa Wells, How to Create A Series. I pitched to editors and submitted manuscripts. But as she was doing this several of her fellow writers decided to self-publish through Amazon. They are all doing well. More than one suggested she should try this route, as did her son. So here she is, feeling a lot like Sally Fields and hoping that ‘They like me, they really do!

And you’re not callin’ Sam. And if you dare to put your fingers on this bloody phone one more time, I’m smashin’ it to smithereens.” His voice became a roar. “Are ya understandin’ me?”

Vicki sobbed and turned her head away from him.

“And there she goes again,” he said. “Did I not take the time and take the effort to explain to you in minute detail why it is that I can’t bear to hear a woman cry?”

“Yes,” she cried, the tears running down her face.

“Then tell me why, when you can clearly see that I’ve got me hands full with the little matter of a bloody corpse in the room, you decide this is the time you want to cry?”

“I don’t want to cry,” she sobbed, “but you’re being mean to me.”

“I’m bein’ mean to her, she says.” He relaxed his iron grip on her but continued to position her against the wall. “Vicki. Darlin’. I’m not upset with you. Yet. But I’m askin’ you to remain calm and listen. Okay? Do you think you can do that for me? That’s all I’m askin’.”

She heard something shuffling and as she stared into Dylan’s eyes, she realized he was standing perfectly still, waiting for her response. Her eyes tried to move past him, but his body was blocking her view. She heard the sound again and her eyes darted back to Dylan’s. “He’s not dead,” she said, her voice erupting from her in a hoarse whisper. “He’s moving!”

4 Star Review ~*~

This is the first book I've read by p.m.terrell but it won't be the last.  She sets up a great paranormal suspense with characters that just suck  you into the story.  p.m.terrell's descriptions and development really make you feel like you are right there in the thick of things with them.

Vicki is trying to become an ex-CIA agent with special abilities.  But they seem to need her for 'just one more thing'.  I wonder how long that will go on! LOL . . .The characters are all intriguing and none of them are what you would expect.  They are all a bit quirky and fun to love or hate depending on which way they rub you!

I definitely recommend Vicki's Key if you are looking for a book that will make you gasp and really feel like you have been transported into it.  If you are looking for a well paced story that is full of action and finger nail biting moments, pick it up and get started on a journey with p.m.terrell

Sidney's Triple Shot is really a bit of a refreshing tale that was fun and exciting to read.  Sidney has made a few bad decisions and one will continue to haunt her for some time.  We meet Sidney at the end of an abusive relationship that she has rightly decided to end.  Word of Warning, gloss over the first chapter if reading about domestic abuse makes you squeamish but it is necessary to help understand Sidney's character. 

As Sidney moves from place to place, her money runs low and things get more difficult.  Just when she finally finds a place she likes, life is about to be complicated again. Her ex may have found her and she is attracted to the three brothers that own the bar where she works.  What is a girl to do?  Sidney's wants to run again but the men don't want to let her go.  Each of the brother's is very different which makes for some interesting conversations and intimate moments between them. 

I found Sidney's Triple Shot to be a story of a second chance for Sidney.  She shows a lot of strength by getting out of a bad place and then attempting to trust the new men in her life.  The men are great in their understanding and protection of Sidney.  It was emotional and once I started, I couldn't put it down.  There was so much going on that I wanted to know what happened next that I took the book to bed with me and just kept reading until I finished! Thanks Lori for keeping me awake until the wee hours of the morning. . . although it was worth it.

This story really stuck with me after the fact as well.  It is the first story I have read by Lori King, but will nto be the last.  She is a masterful storyteller with characters that are believable and so down to earth they will steal your heart and probably never let go.
